The GTA02 Charger Issue: Charger Test Program

The charger test program sets the system to a fixed mode of operation. By default, it disables the charger. When the AUX button is pressed, it enables the charger until AUX is released again.

Program Installation

The charger test program replaces u-boot. It sets the CPU up such that it consumes a bit less power, it blinks the red LED at 0.5Hz, and it enables the charger when AUX is pressed.

To install the charger test program, do the following:

Download gta02v5-chg0.udfu
Remove battery and USB
Insert a charged battery
Press and hold AUX
Connect USB to the PC, while still holding AUX
Release AUX when the boot menu comes up. The boot menu should say "*** BOOT MENU (NOR) ***".

On the PC, run

dfu-util -a u-boot -R -D gta02v5-chg0.udfu

Press AUX to select "Power down" in the boot menu
Press POWER to power down
Press POWER to start the charger test program
After a few seconds, the red LED (under the AUX button) should start to blink at 0.5Hz
Remove all power sources to power down again

WARNING ! This overwrites the u-boot in NAND. In order to restore normal device operation, you need to transfer a new u-boot with DFU.

Program Usage

To manually activate charger with the charger test program, do the following:

Replace u-boot with the charger test program (see above)
Remove battery and USB
Insert a charged battery
Connect USB (such that it supplies power)
Wait until the red LED (AUX) starts blinking
Press AUX
The system shuts down (if it's a GTA02v5 or GTA02v6)
